Mardi Pardi 2013 FAQ

1. When will the Mardi Pardi 5k and 10k race take place?
The 3rd annual Mardi Pardi 5k and 10k will take place on Saturday, February 9, 2013, in Bay St Louis, Mississippi. The race start time will be at 9:00 am. Race day registration begins at 8:00 am.

2. Who will benefit Mardi Pardi 5k and 10k race?
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Live Oak Alliance. Additionally, the race brings attention to the coast and its rich heritage. The positive economic impact of this event will be experienced by restaurants and hotels patronized by competitors and visitors.

3. Is it a challenging course?
Yes! Get ready for a scenic tour of the Bay St Louis as the course takes you through
downtown Bay St Louis and along the beach. You’ll have too much to see to be distracted by any challenges you may face. Click here for access to our county’s chamber site and all Hancock County has to offer.

4. Will the race have chip timing?
Yes, both the 5k and 10 k race will use chip timing. Runners will be provided with an
electronic “chip” to wear on their shoes or around their ankles. This chip is activated as each participant crosses the start line, at any interim checkpoints on the course, and again at the finish line. This ensures each participant has an accurate finish time and results are immediately available to race organizers. No Limit Timing is our official race timers and organizer.

5. Is there a time limit?
No, there is not a time limit.

6. Is the event walker-friendly?
You can walk, run – or a combination of both!

7. How many aid stations will there be on the course? What race drinks and supplements will be provided?
Aid stations are located roughly every 1.7 miles. Both water and sports drinks will be available at aid stations.

8. Is there on-line registration?
Yes. Online registration is available for both the 5k and 10k. We encourage you to and
tell all your friends to register early. You can request a hard copy application, if necessary. Click here for registration.

9. Will there be medals for every finisher?
No, age-group awards will be three deep in the standard five-year age categories also
overall winners will receive special recognition.

10. Will you have a pre-race dinner?
We will not host a pre-race dinner, but we hope you’ll take the opportunity to experience the local flavor by dining at one of Bay St. Louis’s many restaurants. Also, we do have an awesome Pardi on Friday night for pre-registration with both food and music. The preregistration Pardi takes place annually at Mockingbird Café in downtown Bay St Louis. Participants will be given a ticket for a free famous Mockingbird Burger and beer.  $5.00 donations are welcome.   Click here to check out the Mockingbird.

11. Can I pick up a friend’s or family member’s packet if they cannot make it to the pre registration pardi?
A signed waiver is required at the time of packet pick up for each participant. You may pick up a packet for a friend or family member, however, you must bring a signed and notarized waiver completed by the participant, for printable waiver click here.

12. Will there be music entertainment as part of the event?
Music is part of the rich culture of our region. Mardi Pardi strives every year to provide some of the best entertainment in the region for both our pre-registration Pardi on Friday night before the race, as well as music after the race for your enjoyment.

13. What’s the weather like in Bay St Louis in February?
Average February temperatures range from 68.2 degrees Fahrenheit for the daily high to a low of 47.1 degrees. Average rainfall is less than six inches. We’ve experienced both extreme highs and lows when it comes to temperatures at starting time, so it’s best to be prepared and check the forecast in the days leading up to the race.

14. Is there an event for kids?
At the present time no, but children are allowed to participate at a student rate with their
parents present. It is our goal in the future to include a children’s one mile fun run.

15. Can I wear headphones, use a cell phone or push a stroller in the race?
The safety of all participants is our primary concern, and devices such as headphones,
cell phones, iPods and strollers can cause problems along the course. We ask that, if you
do plan to use one of these devices, please do so with caution and be respectful of the
other competitors

16. When does the race start?
Both the 5k and 10k race will start from the Mockingbird Café at 9:00 am.

17. What happened to the Triathlon?
The triathlon is being moved to a later date in the year when we have more favorable
weather conditions for our kayakers.

18. Can I wear a costume to participate in the race?
By all means, this year we are going to award runners with the best costumes. It’s Mardi
Gras time and we encourage you to make this race as colorful as possible.

19. Second Line Parade?
We are going to be doing a second line parade after the awards ceremony through the
downtown streets of Bay St Louis

20. How can I volunteer to help either Friday night or Saturday morning?
